A large fire broke out at Tasmania’s Tungatinah power station overnight, one of 10 major stations in the state’s hydroelectric network.
The Tasmanian premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said the station was a “very important part of our hydro network, accounting for around 5% of Tasmania’s power”. He went on to assure Tasmanians that there is no risk to Tasmania’s power and energy supply.
Matt Lowe from Tasmania’s fire service said it was a “difficult fire” for the crews, but they did the best they could in the circumstances. No one was injured in the event.
